MOT Certificate
The law states that all vehicles must undergo MOT tests on a yearly basis. You should bear in mind that this certificate is not a substitute for servicing and maintenance of your vehicle.
New changes introduced to the MOT certificate
On or after October 2011, all car owners will receive a new MOT pass upon testing their vehicles. This new pass is in a landscape format, not the pre-printed coloured one. The purpose for changing the format of the certificate is to cut down on wastage and costs.
Your test record
When you take your vehicle for a test at AC Garage Services, you will be given either a pass or failure notification certificate. This information will be recorded on a database, but it should not be regarded as proof of mechanical condition of the vehicle.
When should you renew your MOT
It is acceptable to renew your MOT up to one month before its expiry date. But the earliest you can take your vehicle for testing, the more time you will have to get it repaired in case of MOT failure.
How to tax your car
For an up-to-date tax disc, you need to take your MOT certificate to a Post Office branch. However, this will not be required if the vehicle is exempt for MOT testing because of its type or age. Obtaining a tax disc can also be done online. When you obtain an MOT certificate for your vehicle, it confirms that the car is roadworthy for 12 months, which is the expiration of the certificate. The law states that all vehicles must undergo MOT tests on a yearly basis. You should bear in mind that this certificate is not a substitute for servicing and maintenance of your vehicle.
From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle windscreen.
To drive or keep a vehicle on the road you will still need to get vehicle tax and DVLA will still send you a renewal reminder when your vehicle tax is due to expire. This applies to all types of vehicles including those that are exempt from payment of vehicle tax.
